There’s nothing quite like a slow-simmered Bolognese—rich, comforting, and packed with layers of flavor. At Iacofano’s Catering & Events, we’re known for delivering chef-crafted meals from Charleston to Cleveland, and today we’re sharing one of our favorites: our signature Bacon & Lamb Bolognese.
This dish is a true expression of comfort food with a gourmet edge. Perfect over pappardelle or spooned into lasagna, it’s a recipe that brings people together.
🍳 Ingredients
- ½ lb bacon, diced and rendered
- ½ yellow onion, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 3 celery stalks, diced
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1½ quarts high-quality marinara sauce
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 sprig each of rosemary and thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup heavy cream
🔥 Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed pot, render the bacon until crispy. Remove some fat if needed.
- Add onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until tender and translucent.
- Add ground beef and lamb. Sauté until fully browned and caramelized.
- Stir in marinara, bay leaves, rosemary, and thyme. Simmer for 30–45 minutes.
- Finish with heavy cream, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir gently and let it thicken slightly.
- Serve hot over your favorite pasta or spoon into baked dishes.
Pro Tip: This sauce freezes beautifully. Make a double batch and save some for later!
